Posted September 11, 2006 at 4:28 amThe 49ers lost their season opener to the Cardinals, but looked much improved over last season. Quarterback Alex Smith looked like a completely different player from last season, and running back Frank Gore looked like a legitimate threat at running back. There was still plenty of areas to improve though, particularly on defense and third downs.
